1. Introduction
A great deal of effort has gone into creating this genealogy, including my non-typist hunt
and peck data entry. With this in mind, I apologize in advance for any possible errors you may
encounter. I'm always looking for new data and/or corrections to existing data.
Use email
papa101248@yahoo.com with subject Woodworth Genealogy to submit this data. I'm
thick skinned if you'd like to critique this work. Viewing this document is best done with
a desktop computer using 80% zoom.
My interest in researching my family history started in 2007. This interest was
sparked by a gift from my mother and prompted both the writing of her biography as well as
creating this genealogy.
Excerpt from biography:
"Two years ago (2007) while visiting Mom at the Masonic Home in Charlton, Ma., she gave me a large box of 'history'
containing letters, photos, drawings, trip packages, etc. One of these was a soft covered three
ring binder with Elizabeth Rachel Woodworth embossed on the front cover, containing all sorts of
information starting in the late 1920's. I'm presuming it was given her by Grandpa Woodworth, but
I can't be certain. This document is prompted by that notebook. I have scanned it to my computer
and included it here with my comments along side. My hopes are that you enjoy this as much as I've
enjoyed (toiled) creating it."
Biography
Next I started tapping the
memories of family members, and in the next ten
years collected information from human sources as well as the Internet.
The family tree was then rather
lopsided towards my maternal side, seeing my mother,
Elizabeth_Rachel_(Woodworth)_Bennett was the eldest of eight sibling in
the Woodworth clan. I have virtually no information about my paternal (Bennett) side other
than one photo taken in 1900 and listed under Mearle Bennett. In 2004 I
retired allowing me to take up the research again.
2. Who Am I?
I'm John Richard Bennett a maternal grandson of Rev. Albert Shephard Woodworth or "Puppa"
as Mom always lovingly called him. A great amount of items referenced here came from Mom's
records. In the top left hand corner of this page is genealogy-tree clipart. When hovered over, it will show a photo of the
1946 Woodworth Family Reunion, which is only one of these items. Everything expounded upon here refers to people in that photo.
Born in 1948, I'm not in the photo.
Personal comments:
Grandpa and
Grandma Ada and
Auntie Zella have been
extra-special to me. Grandpa was a pastor who in his spare time along with Grandma Ada ran a side-of-the-road
vegetable stand and on the too-rare occasions I visited, I was
allowed to help.
I don't know what Auntie Zella did for a living, but she was the greatest disciplinarian I ever knew. Never raising
her voice, she instead, would lower it requiring me to lean in just to hear her. Then she would quietly reason with me until I
would feel bad about myself. Very effective.
