My First Fifty Years by John R Bennett PrefaceJohn Richard Bennett has had insulin dependent (type 1) diabetes since December 1954. He is a Computer Science Analyst at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, working there since 1968. Married in 1969, John and his wife Joann have two daughters, Noel (who also has type 1 diabetes) and Krista. Both daughters have children, Heather and Joshua repectively. John's hobbies include camping, kayaking and bicycling. John is
looking forward to the day he receives his "Half Century Award" from the Joslin
Clinic in Boston, for combating his diabetes for 50 years. His dream is to be able
to ride his bicycle from Riverhead, NY to the Cross Sound Ferry in Orient Point,
NY. His wife, driving his vehicle as a sag wagon will take the ferry to New
London, Ct. while John kayaks across Long Island Sound. He then intends to
continue his bicycling to the Joslin Diabetic Camp in Charlton, Ma. where he will
accept his award. |
